WORDS

"The ability to range freely between the amorphous and the precise and to give abstract forms convincing emotional resonance, indicates Schauwecker’s mastery of his medium."

DONALD KUSPIT,

Art historian

"...there is always an ongoing drama, a sense, literally, of suspense in these paintings. What they record, it seems to me, is the passage of time as experienced by the rooms in which the human figures move."

GEOFF DYER,

Writer

"Schauwecker’s pulsating pairings between abstraction and figuration, animate and unanimate, background and foreground, maintain a tension that keeps the viewer from ever falling into one single mode of interpretation."

MARINA VAN ZUYLEN,

Professor at Bard College
